Job Title: Underwriter

Band: Team Player

Department: Mortgage Lending

Reports to: Additional Lending Supervisor

Main purpose of job

To process applications from existing members wishing to borrow additional funds or on their existing mortgage with the Society. Transfer of Equity applications are also processed within the Team.

The job holder is part of a team of efficient and skilled processors who are responsible for ensuring cases are underwritten in accordance with current Lending Policy and within agreed service standards.

Key Accountabilities

1. Assist the team to achieve corporate offer and completion targets
2. Work within defined service standards
3. Achieve objectives and deadlines (both personal and team)
4. Work to a high degree of accuracy
5. Be rapid and flexible in your approach to work
6. Show initiative and suggest new approaches to everyday work.
7. Communicate clearly and with confidence
8. Make sound decisions by gathering and analysing relevant information and balance procedural issues with an assessment of the issues involved.
9. Take ownership of customer queries and ensure appropriate solutions are given.

Internal
Other MLD teams, Branches, Other HO Departments.

External
Customers, Solicitors, Other professional bodies.

Qualifications Skills & Experience

  • A knowledge of the mortgage process or a keenness to learn
  • Good PC skills in MS Word and Excel are required
  • Good organisational / time management skills and the ability to work under pressure, meeting deadlines and ensuring service standards are maintained.
  • Good communication and motivational skills are essential to ensure objectives are achieved.
